Welcome to Gear Behind the Man: Trainer Edition. We check in with physical trainers and athletes to discover the gadgets and gear that they’ve come to rely on. Whether you consider the gym your second home or you have aspirations to work out in the near future, let this guide serve as inspiration to elevate your experience.

George Foreman III is a boxing coach and fitness instructor, the founder of EverybodyFights(a workout studio offering classes in boxing, circuit, running, and yoga), and a former pro boxer with an undefeated 16-0 record. You may also know him as the son of two-time world heavyweight champion and George Foreman Grill endorser “Big” George Foreman Sr.

With a schedule that’s equal parts training and travel, George III has learned a thing or two about getting the most out of a workout in a limited-time frame and a unique environment. As such, he’s a pro at picking the right gear to go the distance.

From jump ropes and weight vests to a self-cleaning water bottle, here are a few of the fitness instructor’s favorite tools of the trade.

What equipment do you rely on in the ring?

Unlike most workouts, a boxing training session can last for hours, rotating through different types of bags, stretching out, sparring, etc. While you may be resting at times, your gear needs to hold up and perform throughout.

These Jordan Dri-FIT 23 Alpha three-quarter training tightsare super comfortable and they’re made with moisture-wicking fabric so they’ll stay in the game as long as you do.

Boxing made the jump rope iconic. And the jump rope has made many iconic boxers. As a means of conditioning your body and dialing in your coordination, few workouts offer the ROI of jumping rope. The RPM Session 3.0jump rope is a durable, up-market speed rope, and it comes in a bunch of cool color options.

Hayabusa’s T3 glove is one of the best in boxing, made with microfiber leather and an antimicrobial lining, providing just the right balance of comfort, support, and protection. And if you’re looking for a little flair (as fighters often are), the new collaboration with Marvel gives you all the flair you need. The Hayabusa The Punisher Boxing Glovesis sure to make your opponent think twice about stepping to you.

What kind of gear do you rely on outside of your boxing workouts?

Training with a weight vest such as the Hyperwear Hyper Vest Elite Weight Vestis one of my favorite ways to strengthen my body without introducing equipment such as dumbbells or bands that can limit my body’s natural movements. This vest in particular allows outstanding range of motion, and the form-fitting design is more comfortable than other weight vests on the market.

I also love swimming because it is a low-impact and versatile workout that can be used as a cardio or HIIT session or even to recover in between other workouts. The one thing I hate is getting water in my eyes. THEMAGIC5 Black Magicis the world’s first pair of custom-fitted swimming goggles. With a facial scan built into the ordering process via the mobile app, the goggles are designed specifically to match the curvature of your face, ensuring a perfect fit.

There are many different kinds of workout shoes out there. When it comes to cross-training, the key is to look for a shoe that is comfortable, supportive, lightweight, and durable enough to withstand whatever you’re planning to throw at it. The Nike Zoom Commandis a low-profile shoe with all of the above attributes, as well as a thermoplastic polyurethane inner cage that conforms to your foot.

What health and fitness essentials do you take on the road with you?

Staying hydrated is so important, especially if you’re working out or living an active lifestyle. When you travel, flying in particular, it is even more important to stay on top of your hydration. I don’t always know where my schedule is going to take me, so I pack The LARQ Bottle, which is actually a self-cleaning water bottle with a built-in water purification system. It holds 17 ounces of water and uses UV-C LED light to eliminate up to 99.9999 percent of bio-contaminants. And since I’m always on the move, I love that you can plug it into your laptop to charge.

I like to be as comfortable as possible when I travel. This hoodie is basically the most comfortable thing I have ever worn. Whether I’m settling into my seat thousands of feet above the clouds or warming up at the gym with some light shadowboxing, the Softwear Men’s Hoodie Obsidianis my go-to piece of clothing. Better yet, everything the brand makes is manufactured sustainably in the U.S.

I take music with me everywhere I go, but I also spend a decent amount of time on the phone. So for me, the ultimate audio is wireless, lightweight, and as intuitive as possible. These days you can find a lot of great headphones and other audio gear for different situations, including all kinds of specific workouts, but I’ve found the Apple AirPods with Wireless Charging Caseto be the ultimate all-rounder with the best sound.

What do you do between workouts to speed up your recovery?

A few minutes on a simple foam roller a couple of times a week can do wonders for your recovery and can even help extend your range of motion. But, if you’ve got room in your budget, there’s one recovery tool that eclipses anything else out there right now. The Theragun G3PROis a third-generation product that more-or-less got it right the first time. This latest version features a host of refinements and packs more power (and battery life) into a smaller, sleeker body. And it won’t wake the neighbors.

If you’re not paying attention to your nutrition, you’re short-changing yourself. Even outside of fitness and workout recovery, your energy levels and your mood can be influenced in a big way by the food you consume. When your nutrition is on point, you can bounce back faster from workouts and know you’ll have the energy you need for the day’s work. I think that meal delivery services are a great option for people (like me) who want to put their nutrition on autopilot. Kettlebell Kitchenis a solid option; the wide variety of meals keeps me from getting bored and I’ve been really impressed by the quality so far.

What are some cool tech toys for the home that you feel help you get more out of your day?

It might seem odd to get so excited about a blender, but the Vitamix Professional Series 750is arguably the greatest nutrition tool on Earth. If you’re looking to add nutrient-dense smoothies and protein-packed shakes to your daily diet, no tool will make it easier than this. There’s a reason you see these blenders at just about every juice bar. Heck, it’ll even grind your coffee beans! Side note: I drink too much coffee.

The last thing you need when you’re flying out the door to make a meeting or catch a flight is the acute realization that you have no idea where you left your keys. Or, that your phone is about to die. The Courant CATCH:3is a handy tray to store daily essentials such as your wallet and watch (and let’s be honest, all the change you empty out of your pockets on the way in), combined with an incognito wireless charging pad for your phone. Minimally designed and wrapped in pebble-grain Italian leather, this stylish piece of tech looks good wherever you put it.
